We are financed primarily through the fund-raising efforts of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation, Inc. (501C3 non-profit organization), which exists to make this service possible. The Foundation's main sources of income are special events and grants. The additional funds to cover operating costs are raised through therapy session fees, training course fees, the sale of instructional materials and contributions. A number of organizations and foundations support the work of the Center.

Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy is successful due to its labor-intensive nature. There is no substitute for the focused and sustained attention of experienced therapists when it comes to connecting with hard-to-reach individuals such as children with autism. Most sessions are conducted with two therapists, a third person films the session, and the two therapists spend additional time reviewing the videotape of each session. This intensive time commitment means that session costs far exceed the fees charged to families. Additionally, we offer a sliding scale so that no client is denied service. With the help of generous donors like you, we will continue to say “yes” to those who come to us seeking help.

Where does your donation go?

There is so much that goes into running a music therapy program. Here is a list of what your donation could go towards:

$25 buys a pair of specially designed mallets
$50 buys 2 tambourines or covers the fee for one child for one group therapy session
$100 covers the cost of tuning our piano or purchasing a xylimba  (a small xylophone)
$250 cover the cost of specially adapted musical instruments needed for use in therapy
$500 will cover the cost for ten assessment sessions for families unable to afford this fee
$1,500 will sponsor one individual's music therapy sessions for half a year
$3,000 will sponsor one individual's music therapy sessions for one year
$6,000 will sponsor one group's music therapy sessions for one year
$7,500 will provide a complete scholarship for a music therapist in training
$25,000 will pay a part-time therapist's annual salary
