| Turry Honored by New York University
Dr. Alan Turry is the 2009 recipient of the Edith Hillman Boxill Award. This award is given by the Music Therapy Program at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. It recognizes an individual for his/her contributions to the profession of music therapy and is presented only when the Music Therapy program at NYU recognizes a deserving figure in the field.
Dr. Turry was given the award for his outstanding leadership as Managing Director of the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy, which involves administrative, research, clinical and educational responsibilities as well as for his scholarly contributions to the field of music therapy.
Turry has served in this role since 2006 and has been the Center’s Clinical Director since 1997.He was one of the first music therapists to take the training course at the Nordoff-Robbins Center and became the first certified trainer of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in the United States. He earned his Bachelor's, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Music Therapy from New York University. He teaches in the NYU Graduate Program in Music Therapy at NYU. |
